Profile
Pauline is a qualified, experienced garden designer and
horticultural lecturer. In her previous life she was widely involved in the media industry in London. Eventually she moved to West Dorset, where she furthered her studies at Kingston Maurward College and the renowned English Gardening School. Thus began her new career and love of all things horticultural.
PaperWhite Garden Design was founded in 2000 and for eight years Pauline lectured at Kingston Maurward College, where she created and tutored her own accredited level three course, the Advanced Certificate in Garden Design.
Pauline lives in the beautiful Bride Valley with her partner, two border collies and a gorgeous flock of Swedish Gotland sheep.
Style
Pauline creates distinctive functional gardens for visual pleasure, both traditional and contemporary, from undulating rural and exposed coastal
to urban town and enclosed courtyard.
Her designs are evocative of the stunning countryside and coastline that surround her and a unique reflection of the personality and lifestyle demands of her clients.
She has worked with reputable local building contractor CG Fry & Son on a number of design projects and marketing incentives, including Prince Charles’ prestigious urban development at Poundbury. Several of her clients' gardens have been opened for the National Gardens Scheme.
Pauline’s style is essentially classic, using geometric shapes and strong lines, complemented by bold natural planting with particular emphasis on texture, form and an imaginative use of colour. Each garden has a strong architectural element, using quality materials and planting combinations that complement the landscape and enhance the overall concept of the design.
Consultancy
PaperWhite Garden Design provides a flexible service that can be tailored to suit your specific requirements. This could be a design consultation, the rejuvenation of an existing space, the development of an area for planting or a complete design package.
Pauline has a versatile approach to design and works instinctively to achieve what is right for both you and your garden, ensuring consistency and integrity throughout the design process.
Writing & Photography
Shortly after joining the Garden Media Guild, Pauline was offered the position of garden features writer for Dorset Life magazine.
Her extensive garden design and plant knowledge has enabled her to become a proficient, enthusiastic writer and aspiring photographer, capturing the essence of
all things gardens.
Courses
Pauline aims to make learning an interesting and rewarding experience. Classes are informal and collaborative, delivered through a combination of lectures, workshops, practical sessions and garden visits.
She is passionate about her subject, enjoys sharing knowledge and encourages her students to do the same.
Pauline is a guest lecturer at the Arts University Bournemouth and is available on a freelance basis on any aspect of garden design. Suggestions for new topics are always welcome and courses can be tailored to meet the needs of individual groups.
